Development of Iatrogenic Patella Fracture during Intramedullary Nailing Of Femoral Shaft Fracture: Case Report

During antegrade intramedullary nailing operations in femoral fractures, acute complications could develop as follows; femoral neck fracture, trochanter major fracture, extra complications related with present fracture such as fat embolism syndrome and peripheral nerve injuries. Here we present a patient who developed iatrogenic patella fracture on the ipsilateral patella during antegrade intramedullar nailing operation because of right femoral shaft fracture. The patient complained of right knee pain after the surgical procedure and we examined the X- ray and CT scans and established fracture on the right patella. In the accessible literature we found no data about patella fracture during antegrade nailing of the femur. Therefore we aimed to present and discuss this case with a review the literature.

Femur Şaft Kırığının İntra Medüller Çivi ile Tedavisinde İatrojenik Patella Kırığı Gelişmesi: Olgu Sunumu

Femur kırığı sonrası yapılan antegrad intramedüller çivileme ameliyatları esnasında femur boyun kırığı, trokanter major kırığı, mevcut kırığın daha komplike hale gelmesi, yağ embolisi ve periferik sinir yaralanmaları gibi akut komplikasyonlar gelişebilmektedir. Burada biz, sağ femur şaft kırığı sonrası yapılan antegrad çivileme ameliyatı esnasında iatrojenik olarak ipsilateral patella kırığı gelişen bir hastayı sunmaktayız. Hastanın cerrahi girişimden sonra sağ diz ağrısı tariflemesi üzerine direkt grafi ve bilgisayarlı tomografi ile incelememizde sağ patella kırığı saptandı. Ulaşılabilen literatürde femur antegrad çivileme esnasında patella kırığı komplikasyonu gelişen olguya rastlanmadı. Bu olgumuzu literatür tartışması eşliğinde sunmayı amaçladık.
