Aim: Rubella may lead to fetal infections, several anomalies, stillbirth and spontan abortus, if maternal infection occurs at the first trimester. Therefore we investigated rubella IgG and IgM antibodies rate by Elisa in attempt to determine the seronegative women constituting of the risk group with respect to rubella. Method: The sera of 276 women at the reproductive age were detected with Novum and Meddens EIA kits for Rubella IgG ve IgM antibodies by EL-9 Microplate Reader in accordance with test guides. . 8-10 ml venous blood was taken under sterile conditions. The sera were kept at -20?C until study time. The IgM positive sera were evaluated with latex agglutination method for RF. Results: In this study group, IgG antibodies were found negative in 4 out of 11 cases younger than 18 years and IgM antibodies were found positive in 2 out of 11 cases. In all of 7 cases older than 40 years, IgG antibodies were found positive and IgM negative. Rubella IgG seropositivity was seen in 237 cases (86 %). Rubella IgG antibodies were found negative in 39 (14 %) out of 276 cases. These 39 cases were at the rubella risk group. Because of the significance of congenital rubella syndrome, it is useful to vaccinate the seronegative girls and women. Conclusion: In this study, Rubella IgM seropositivity was found in 19 cases. In all of these sera, RF was found negative. Rubella IgG seronegativity was seen in sera of Rubella IgM positive cases. Rubella has atypical symptoms like fever, arthritis and arthralgia This Rubella IgM seropositivity could be connected with the period after acute phase of the primary infection. None of the cases at the risk group and IgG seropositive group showed typical rubella symptoms.
Keywords: Rubella, rubella IgG and IgM antibodies, ElisaAmaç: Kızamıkçık gebeliğin ilk trimestrinde geçirildiğinde fötal enfeksiyonlara, çeşitli anomalilere, ölü doğum ve spontan düşüklere neden olabilmektedir.
