An alternative method to surgery in Chylothorax therapy; Somatostatin application

Cheilothorax is the collection of lymphatic fluid in pleural space due to disintegration of lymphatic duct’s integrity. Development of lymphatic leakage in the postoperative period is encountered 1-4% after esophagus surgery. It is contraversial that the treatment of this complication would be whether conservative or surgical method chosen. All surgical interventions not always elicit definite cure and bring forth other complications. In the management of cheilothorax therapy somatotostatin; an agent used increasingly in recent years seen as an alternative method to surgery.

Şilotoraks Tedavisinde Cerrahiye Alternatif Bir Metot: Somatostatin Uygulanması

Şilotoraks lenfatik duktusun bütünlüğünün bozulması sonucu plevral boşlukta lenfatik sıvının birikmesidir. Postoperatif dönmede lenfatik kaçak gelişmesi özofagus cerrahilerinden sonra %1-4 oranında görülmektedir. Bu komplikasyonun tedavisinde konservatif metot ve cerrahi yöntem seçimi halen tartışmalıdır. Bütün cerrahi girişimler, her zaman kesin tedavi sağlayamamakta ve ayrıca başka komplikasyonlara neden olabilmektedir. Son yıllarda şilotoraks tedavisinde kullanımı giderek artan bir ajan olan somatostatin cerrahiye alternatif bir yöntem olarak görülmektedir.
