Pleural effusion is the result of the imbalance in the secretion-absorption process in the pleural cavity, caused by both the benign and malignant diseases. Although the most commonly encountered etiologies are viral and the bacterial infections, and tuberculosis, it can also be associated with lymphoma or other malignancies. Hodgkin’s (HL) and Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (NHL)'s are malignant tumors arising from lymphatic tissue. These tumors have varying pathology, immunology, and response to treatment. The prognosis depends on the histological type, the stage, and the other clinical and pathological parameters. The histological diagnosis is important in determining the appropriate treatment approach. Malignancy is an important factor in the etiology of exudative pleural effusions. Of all the malignant pleural effusions (MPE), 10% are caused by lymphomas (1). Especially cases of empyema associated with lymphoma with a delayed diagnosis are rarely described in the literature. In this article, we report a case of lymphoma, which was admitted with the diagnosis of empyema and the lymphoma was diagnosed secondarily. Conclusion: This case was presented to emphasize that pleural effusion is an important entity associated with malignancies, as well as infectious agents.
Keywords: Empyema, lymphoma, diagnosisPlevral efüzyon, plevral boşluktaki sekresyon-absorpsiyon dengesinin bozulması sonucu oluşur.
