| 1. | Evaluation of Forensic Deaths Event İn Bağcılar İstanbul Muhammet Can, Lale Tırtıl, İsmail Birincioğlu, Ali Çerkezoğlu, Sıddık Keskin Pages 70 - 74 Aim: The aim of this study wos to introduce socio-demographic properties of the deaths and to compare the findings that wos obtaihed in the o ther studies. Methods: Records of 144 events were studied as forensic death between 2001 and 2005. The events were studied through15 parameters in accordance with gender, date and place of birth, the occupation of obituary, the civil status of it, the place of dying, kind of event, date of event, place of post mortem examination, outcome of the examination, whether it was photographed, situation of corpse’s clothing, whether there was a judicial survey team or not, and whether expert of forensic medicine wrote his/her report independently or not. Results: 144 events which were examined as forensic case was detected that 98(68.1%) were male, 46(31.9%) were female, their ages were between 0 and 70, their avarege age was 33.9,and proportion of male/female was 2.3. The biggest group of the events which were traffic accidents with the rate of 28(19.4) took attention, then hanging up with the rate of 18(12.5), and firearm injuries with the rate of 15(10.4). Conclusion: A rise had been observed in criminal events which result with injury and death in Bağcılar which developed through a rapid migration which led to the problems of accomadation, settlement and infrastructure and the rapid changes in socio-cultural and social structure. |
| 2. | Comparison of Alcohol Levels in Blood and Respiration Air of Alcohol Consuming Subjects and Their Effects on Liver Enzymes Muhammet Can, S.Serhat Gürpınar, Hülya İşler, Nezih Varol, Zafer Gürpınarlı, İsmail Kocaağa Pages 75 - 80 Aim: In forensic events, alcohol level in blood cannot be measured right after the event and obtained results causes discussions to occur. The aim of this study is to determine the blood alcohol levels of participant and compare these levels with the respiration air that is used in practise and to investigate the effects of alcohol on liver enzymes. Methods: An alcohol drinking environment is created and 347 ml of various alcoholic drinks were given to the participants for two and a half hours. The time when drinking ended was assumed as hour 0. The alcohol level in the respiration air was calculated by a alcoholmeter in hour 0, hour 1 and hour 2. Blood sample was taken from the participants in hour 2. In addition, the SGOT, SGPT, GGT, total bilirubin and direct bilirubin values were also measured in the blood samples. The levels of the above mentioned parameters before alcohol consumption and in hour (2 were compared). A survey was applied to the participants about their habits, alcohol consume habits and personal features. Statistical analysis of the results were made with SPSS (10.0 version) program. Results: Fourty-nine people participated to the study. 18 of them were women (36.7%) and 31 of them were men. (%63.3) The ratio of men to women was 1.72. The age average of the participants was 32.16 (STD=2), their weight average was 65.62 kg (STD=10.09), 25 of them weighed between 61 – 79 kg (52%) and their height average was 169.45 cm. (STD=9.09). Alcohol levels in the respiration air was measured as 79.39 mg/dl in hour 0, 62.77 mg/dl in hour 1 and 48.91 mg/dl in hour 2. Conclusion: In this study, the decline of alcohol-levels in the respiratuar air of 16.62 mg/dl in the first and 13.86 mg/dl in the second hour was found statistically significant. In addition, the difference between the alcohol level in blood sample (average 57.69 mg/dl) and the alcohol level in the respiration air (average 48.91 mg/dl )in hour 2 was also found statistically significant. Only SGOT levels the difference in the blood samples taken before alcohol consumption and in the blood samples taken in hour 2, were statistically significant. The obtained findings were also compared with the literature and were discussed. |
| 3. | Intussusception In Children: The Examination Of 26 Cases Mehmet Melek, Yeşim Edirne, Burhan Beger Pages 81 - 86 Aim: To evaluate intussusception cases at our clinic between 2005-2007. Material and Method: Twenty six cases were evaluated retrospective between July 1 2005 and September 30 2007 at the Pediatric Surgery Department of University of Yuzuncu Yil in Van. Results: Our cases consist of ten (38,5%) female and 16 (61,5%) male. The majority of the cases were infants aged 4-12 months. Mean duration between initial symptoms and hospital admission was 39,3±29,8 hours. Mean duration between admission and operation was 8,8±5,5 hours. Intussusceptions were located at ileocecocolic site in majority with 19 cases (73,1%). Manual reduction was performed in 15 cases (57,7%). In ten cases (38,5%) intestinal resection was necessary. Additional anomalies were detected in 14 cases leading with Meckel’s diverticulum (three cases, 11,5%). In nine cases (34.6%) enlarged lymphadenopaties appearing in the intussuscepted segment forming masses were noted as leading points. No recurrences were observed in the early and late postoperative periods. Mortality rate was 7.7%. Conclusion: Our cases consist of delayed diagnoses in the greater part (17 cases, 65,4%) with longer than 24 hours initial symptoms. Relative recurrence rates and social, economical, cultural and geographical disadvantages obliged us to avoid hydrostatic and pneumatic reduction in order to decrease mortality rates. High rates of lymphadenopathy masses observed in our cases with leading point characteristics are supporting our surgical approach. |

| 4. | Prenatal Ultrasonography of Fetal Acrania and Associated Anomalies: A Case Report Ertan Adalı, Fulya Adalı, Recep Yıldızhan, Mertihan Kurdoğlu, Ali Kolusarı Pages 87 - 89 Fetal acrania is a fetal developmental rare anomaly, characterized by partially or totally absence of bones of the cranial vault. Cerebral hemispheres are surrounded with thin membrane. Failure of migration of the ectodermal mesenchyme was responsible for the etiology. Acrania might be associated with fetal anomaly. Fetal acrania is almost always lethal. Prenatal diagnosis of fetal acrania are possible with ultrasonography after completion of calvarial bones ossification in second trimester. We sreport a fetal acrania detected by prenatal ultrasonography in the case which has not been not followed up during pregnancy at the 23th week of gestation. |
| 5. | Concurrence Of Rıght Hıp Avascular Necrosıs And Manıfest Osteoporosis As A Result Of Long Term Glucocorticoıd Use: Case Report Özcan Hız, Gülşah Karaaslan, Levent Yazmalar, İbrahim Tekeoğlu Pages 90 - 94 Many advers effects ca be are seen with the use of glucocorticoids. While osteoporosis is a very common side effect of bone metabolism, avascular necrosis is a rare side effect of glucocorticoide use. High doses and long term steroid use increase the incidance of side effects. In this study, a male patient having osteoporotie fracture in multiple dorsal and lomber vertebrae and avascular necrosis in the right proximal femur due to uncontrolled glucocorticoid usage for fifteen years with atopic dermatitis diagnosis is presented. The fact that our patient has atopic dermatitis disease, which may be related to immune system disorder as a result of long term steroid usage, makes us think that avascular necrosis liability may have increased. As a result, steroids have to be used in appropriate doses and periods in absolute indications and the patients must be followed up regularly |

Pseudotumor shows diagnostic quandary. The prognosis is generally good with the complete resection of the lesion . A girl aged 12 was opereted for of a mass in her lower lob of theright lung..Histopathologic examination result was reported as inflammatorypseudotumor that contains collogen and fibroblasts, with interspersed inflammatory cells, which dominated by lymphocytes and plasma cells. In this report, we present a case of inflammatory pseudotumor of the lung with the review of relevant literature.. |
